Avatar has been officially reported to pass Titanic and predicted to easily keep its number 1 position in the box office in eight weekends. However, the appeal of Dear John, which is based on the novel of the same name by Nicholas Sparks, has created a surprise. Dear John took the top spot at the box office with over $32 million, which was good enough to beat Avatar's $23 million.
