Avatar has been officially reported to pass Titanic and predicted to easily keep its number 1 position in the box office in eight weekends. However, the appeal of Dear John, which is based on the novel of the same name by Nicholas Sparks, has created a surprise. Dear John took the top spot at the box office with over $32 million, which was good enough to beat Avatar's $23 million.

John (the soldier) must go back to the army. He and Savannah (the student) communicate through letters, until fate takes a turn

Neither can foresee that 9/11 is about to change the world and will force John to risk every hope and dream that he's ever had. Like so many proud men and women, John must choose between love and country
