Ever opened a Christmas gift to find something that you know you would never use.
That gift either ends up as a white elephant or recycled as a Christmas gift for someone else next year.

You'll find such hampers everywhere. From crabtree and evelyn, to Harrods to your local grocer. If your budget is small, but you do have the time for it, why not make your own cookies and pack them into pretty boxes or tins as gifts for your friends and loved ones.
Food, once eaten is gone. At most, if the food comes in a pretty tin, that tin may be kept to hold other things.
If you want a gift that the recipient can keep for years to come, a gift of memories, then try sleepwear. I'm not talking about raunchy lingerie. Everyone needs to sleep. A comfortable set of pajamas, or a classy bath robe for lounging around in will definitely be put to good use.
First, find out or at least, estimate the size of each person you are giving the gift to.
For kids, it is easy. The sizes are tied to the kids ages, so pick pajamas a size larger than the kids current age. Children grow. If the pajamas are a little too big, the child can still grow into them.
Likewise, teenagers and grown ups need pajamas too.
